Kampala — Police on Monday mentioned it’s reinstating checkpoints on primary highways to curb site visitors violations and lack of confidence as the festive season begins.

Police in a remark factor mentioned all through the length when checkpoints had been got rid of, fallacious components used the vacuum created to dedicate crimes and break out whilst site visitors offenders led to injuries.

“It is against this background and our security preparedness for Christmas and the New Year 2023 celebrations, that we have reinstated roadblocks and checkpoints with immediate effect,” the remark mentioned.

“All territorial units are tasked to ensure all major roads and highways are safe, and use the checkpoints to arrest traffic violators, drug and child traffickers, robbers, and other violent criminals, especially now that we are entering the festive season,” the remark added.

The checkpoints shall be supported by means of transferring patrols and strong standby groups, the remark mentioned.

The IGP @OkothOchola1 has urged the Director operations to re-instate police street blocks and checkpoints, following steering from H.E. The President. https://t.co/COhOn03kiy %.twitter.com/WZaR0ctNQT
