Nairobi — Kenya Power and Lighting Company has warned Kenyans of a brand new trick being utilized by fraudsters to con shoppers through providing them affordable tokens.
In a commentary, the ability corporate on Friday stated that the fraudsters goal unsuspecting shoppers who use cellphones to purchase tokens.
It defined that the fraudsters who pose as corporate officers textual content messages providing affordable tokens or make telephone calls threatening to disconnect energy over non-payment.
“For instance, disguised as officials from our Company, they send you text messages with offers of #TokensMwitu, or make telephone calls with demands to disconnect your supply for non-payment, then they ask the victims to send them money through a private mobile money number,” a commentary from KPLC reads.
To steer clear of being conned, Kenya Power has requested shoppers to best purchase your tokens or settle your energy expenses via Mpesa Paybill numbers 888880 and 888888 for pay as you go and postpaid services and products respectively, or different approved channels.
