With East Africa in line to make a choice the AU chairman at its subsequent annual leadership rotation in February, regional powerhouse Kenya is going through off with the island country of Comoros. Determined to grab his second after hiking in the course of the AU’s ranks during the last couple of years, Comoros President Azali Assoumani is making the rounds along with his fellow heads of state to succeed in consensus and keep away from a sour dispute with Kenya’s President William Ruto, who may be vying for the seat.
“This is an opportunity that Comoros cannot miss,” Assoumani tells The Africa Report in an interview at his resort. “We hope that our Kenyan brothers will understand us. It’s not often that a country like Comoros gets such an occasion, opportunity and honour.”
